Ten ways to encourage a preacher

John Knox

1. Be there! Preachers need congregations.
2. Be an alert and attentive listener.
3. Follow the message in your Bible.
4. Pray for your preacher.
5. Tell him that you are praying for him.
6. Never say, "That was a nice sermon."
7. Say why you were helped or challenged by the message.
8. Make friendly and constructive criticism when necessary.
9. Don't just listen, do it!
10. Never fall asleep.

Concerning point 8, if you wish to offer constructive criticism, don't do it immediately after the sermon!

Sure. Best not to stick the boot in when the poor preacher is at his most vulnerable.
